The best clubs are two-ball clubs.

Seriously well done, Tim, continuing your, our, passionate never ending support of the single greatest form of golf, two ball foursomes. By far the most enjoyable, competitive and spirited game. No contest, especially when played level over 36 holes with lunch at the break to freshen both the camaraderie in the four and the excitement of the finish to come. Nowhere else (in golf, anyway) does each player involved hold the constant, exhilarating pressure of performing for her or his partner. You’re always playing the next shot, never out of the game and forever linked to the result. (‘I’m in my pocket’ is NOT an option) It’s serious fun, a fierce, friendly and speedy day of extraordinary golf. Thanks, Tim!

Scotland has 550 golf courses, and golf here is accessible for all, whether Trump charges £100 or £1000 will make no diffetence whatsoever to Scottish golfers or the game's health here, the vast majority of those who play Turnberry are American.

He has done this purely to boost the very poor occupancy rates of the hotel with stay and play packages well under £1000, as a big percentage of footfall at Turnberrys current £495 a round are day visitors basing themselves in Troon or Glasgow.

I've noticed numbers seem to be down this year (I drive golf tours), in contrast to the other big name courses here which continue to be very busy, shame because a really good job has been done here in terms of the course and hotel.

Re short courses, just play off the forward tees, even all the big name courss here have that option and are strongly advising guests to do so and enjoy their round

Well done indeed. Luckily I've played Turnberry several times before the current owner bought it. I wouldn't play it now, even though it is a spectacular course. Hopefully the R & A will hold steadfast and keep the open away until the current owner departs. Spot on regarding the Curtis Cup. I attended when it was at Merion and it's a joy to watch. The same with the Walker Cup. They pick the best courses and it is the best format. Finally, I'm with you on your radical new shorter course design. Brilliant idea.

Marvellous idea Tim! Great article and no I’m not attracted to paying £1000 for the privilege of paying the Ailsa at those restricted times. There are much more affordable options available anyway.
